EnsOn Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July, the Rede van Schokland will open its doors during the National Open Beekeeping Days. Visitors are welcome at the apiary at Redeweg 2 in Ens, where the beekeeper on duty will give them a glimpse inside the beehive. In addition, members of the Noordoostpolder Beekeepers’ Association will be happy to tell you about the wonderful world of honeybees, you can taste honey, and they will provide information about the Asian hornet. Admission is free.

Bees are important
Insects, and bees in particular, are very much in the news. Their habitats – and consequently their food supply – are under particular pressure. Bees are indispensable, particularly because, as pollinators, they play a vital role in the pollination of many types of fruit and vegetables, as well as flowers, plants and trees in our natural environment. It is therefore important to make our environment as bee-friendly as possible. They’ll be happy to tell you the best way to do this.
A wonderful hobby
During the Open Beekeeping Days, they open doors that are normally closed to the public and take you on a tour of the beehive. You’ll see that beekeeping is a wonderful hobby that involves a great deal. They’d therefore like to invite you on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm at Redeweg 2 in Ens. Practical tips
They take the phrase ‘taking a peek inside the beehive’ quite literally. Visitors who wish to look inside the hive are provided with a protective suit and gloves. It is recommended that you wear long trousers and closed-toe shoes. Visitors with an allergy to bee stings are asked to make this known in advance.
