At De Stekkentuin in Espel, you can enjoy over 100 hollyhocks of various varieties and in all sorts of colour shades, which grow here in the yard and against the barn walls of the farm. Over 80 different varieties of hydrangea bloom in the shaded borders. Of course, there are also many, often unusual, perennials, shrubs and trees to be found in this colourful enthusiast’s garden. In addition, there is a small, ongoing exhibition of paintings and garden ceramics.
Whilst Joosten Nursery in Rutten is best known in spring for its many stunning iris varieties, from July onwards you can also visit it to see striking daylilies. In the show garden, you’ll find no fewer than 1,100 different varieties, which are on display here in all their glory alongside many other perennials and beautiful ornamental trees. Every year, the nursery wins awards in Beervelde and Hex (both in Belgium).
The garden and nursery are also easily accessible by bike: you can park your car at one of the addresses and then cycle to the other location. A loop around the garden and nursery is approximately 20 km long.
