WEI*blij Harvest Weekend

The WEI*blij Harvest Weekend is a two-day mini-retreat in the countryside at the Zuiderkrib creative outdoor playground. Step away from the hustle and bustle and experience what it’s like to work with a pure, natural product grown locally. At De Zuiderkrib Farm, they grow, amongst other things, flax – a bio-based crop that forms the basis for textiles and insulation. During this weekend, you’ll be introduced to the traditional, manual processing of flax, and together we’ll delve into the world of this ancient crop.

The WEI*blij Harvest Weekend consists of the following elements:

  • Foraging – Saturday begins with a foraging walk led by Antje on the farmyard. You’ll learn which herbs grow in your immediate surroundings, how to recognise them and what they taste like. We’ll sample the bounty of edible plants....
  • Sourdough bread …

  • Foraging – Saturday begins with a foraging walk led by Antje on the farmyard. You’ll learn which herbs grow in your immediate surroundings, how to recognise them and what they taste like. We’ll sample the bounty of edible plants....
  • Baking sourdough bread – We’ll learn from Mariska about how sourdough is made. You’ll be given the basics for making your own sourdough starter, receive a clear explanation of the process and actually get to bake bread. The smell of freshly baked bread, made with your own hands, is an experience in itself.
  • Cooking over a campfire – Over an open fire, we’ll prepare our soup together using produce from the land. You’ll get to taste your own bread and foraged pesto.
  • Yoga – Enjoy a beautiful sunset on the DIKE and watch the sun disappear behind the fields. Liza from Liza’s Practices will be leading a lovely yoga class during this time.
  • Campfire – You can relax by the campfire for a while before heading off to your own bed.
  • Mindful forest walk – The following morning, breakfast will be laid out on long tables and we’ll set off on a walk in the nearby woods. So do make sure to bring your walking shoes.
  • Flax – In the afternoon, we’ll harvest by hand. As growers of flax, the raw material for linen, we’ll explore how this plant lends itself to being made into fabric. We’ll feel it, work with it and learn about the techniques involved in cultivating this ancient crop.
  • Pick-Your-Own Bouquet – To round off the day, you’ll pick a wildflower bouquet to take home and then raise a glass to life.
