Tollebeek is the last built village in the Noordoostpolderder. Its design came from the drawing board of architect Dr Nix from Rotterdam. So yes, no wonder Tollebeek is sometimes jokingly called a village of nix. Tollebeek also has the dubious honour of being the so-called drain of the polder. This is because the Noordoostpolder is at its lowest point here, which regularly led to flooding, despite the three pumping stations to keep the Noordoostpolder dry. Tollebeek was therefore given its own additional sub-pumping stations, to provide dry feet to the polder's sinkhole as well.
Tollebeek is located halfway between Urk and Emmeloord, the start and finish of the annual Fish Potato Run, a running race of almost 13 kilometres through the Noordoostpolder. Less experienced runners start in Tollebeek and then run in about six and a half kilometres to the finish in Emmeloord. Still quite an achievement!

Usually, walking on farmland is not allowed. At Tollebeek the walking route Jaagpad starts, where this is allowed. So you do not walk on paved paths here, but along dykes, across fields and through orchards. This is the perfect walk for anyone who wants to experience the balance between landscape and village and between nature and culture.
