Construction of Bant began in 1951. Bant is the smallest village in the Noordoostpolder. The village's name is derived from Bantega, a village in Friesland, and means 'region'. In Bant, the agricultural destination of the Noordoostpolder is well reflected in the street names, many of which refer to arable farming, such as Noordakker, Zuidakker, Korte Omgang, Lange Omgang and Noordwend.
Another distinctly agricultural touch: Bant has the longest tradition of legal barn parties in the Noordoostpolder. The annual 'Barn Party Bant' is organised by youth association Jongeren19nu, which was founded in 1971, and attracts partygoers from all over Noordoostpolder.
In the centre of Bant is the Bantsiliek, the former Catholic church that now serves as a multifunctional centre. The building is listed and is a landmark on the roundabout in the centre of Bant.
