There are five bicycle hubs in the Noordoostpolder. Ideal to grab an electric bike from and explore the area by bike. But you know what's also fun? Walking from one cycle hub to another and then returning to your starting point by shared bike. Or cycle first and then walk, of course. Whatever you like.
In this case, we suggest a 15.9-kilometre walking route from the bike hub on Schokland to the one in Kraggenburg. At both locations, you will find a catering facility, so you can sit back and relax with some goodies at the start and/or end of your walk. On Schokland, you can go to Museum-Restaurant Schokland and in Kraggenburg to Hotel Van Saaze.

Starting at Schokland, you walk north along the former island, whose contours can still be seen in the landscape. You cross the island via the Oud Emmeloorderweg, then continue north along the Vluchthavenpad. At the northern tip of Schokland. to the right of where you walk, stands the Misthorn House. This is one of the few surviving buildings from the time when Schokland was an island. Right next to it you can see the national monument De Lichtwachter: a lighthouse from the time when Schokland was still an island with the lighthouse keeper's house next to it.
At Vliegtuigweg, turn right. Look at the farms you pass along the way here. The barns here are often made of shock concrete: something you hardly ever find outside the Noordoostpolder . This road turns into Sloefweg, which you follow until you turn right onto Drietorensweg. After crossing the Enservaart canal, follow it via the Mammouthweg, which runs parallel to the canal, until you reach Leemringweg. When you follow this, you will see on the left the entrance to Netl, an outdoor park where you will find dunes, swimming water, bamboo forests, hiking trails and natural play equipment. There is also a restaurant at Netl, so if you're ready for a snack or drink now, light up here.
A little further on, you leave the main road and step into the Voorsterbos. A nice variation after the vast countryside you've walked across so far. There is boulder clay from the penultimate Ice Age in the soil here, which made this area unsuitable for agriculture after reclamation. Hence, trees were planted. Especially in autumn, you find so many and so many different mushrooms in this forest that the Voorsterbos has been declared Europe's first mushroom paradise. But also in the other seasons, you will see many different plant, tree and bird species here.
Just past the Kraggenburg marina, you arrive from the forest at the Leemvaart, after which it's just a short walk to the bike hub at Hotel Van Saaze in Kraggenburg, where, depending on the weather, you can enjoy a well-earned drink inside or outside on the terrace. And then: unlock your bike(s) and cycle back to Schokland. Download the route for the bike ride back here, which runs via junctions 38 - 95 - 81 - 70 - 20 - 87 - 21 - 61 - 47.
