The Voorster forest also contains boulder clay from the penultimate ice age. This allows poor water penetration, making the area unsuitable for agriculture. Therefore, it was repurposed as a forest area. Foresters planted different trees there, as they did not know which species would grow well. The Voorsterbos is a popular place for hiking and cycling, as well as for a day out with children or for holidays. At Playground Buitengewoon de Voorst, children will entertain themselves for hours with the available go-karts, spinning cushion, zip line and many more activities. And: it's free too! Right next to the playground is Restaurant Buitengewoon de Voorst, where you can have a drink on the terrace while you keep an eye on the kids, and have something nice to eat together afterwards. Here, at Leemringweg 29, is also a car park where you can park your car to take a nice walk through the Voorster forest.
Want to stay longer than a day? Then choose to stay at Recreatiepark De Voorst, where you can camp in your own tent, camper or caravan or rent a chalet or lodge in the woods and along the Zwolse Vaart canal. If you go supping or canoeing on the Zwolse Vaart, you will pass various jetties with information boards telling you more about the history and nature of the area you are sailing through. Prefer swimming in clear water? Then plunge into the leisure park's swimming pool.
