The ‘Polderproeven Fiederels’ recreational cycle route starts and ends at MTB-Camping Fiederels in Bant, a small-scale campsite with 25 pitches, a (cycle) café, two gypsy caravans, two cottages, a flat in the hayloft and enthusiastic owners. The route is ideal if you want to explore the surrounding area by bike from your holiday accommodation. The campsite also has its own cycle rest stop, which means you’re welcome to make use of a number of facilities free of charge, such as a toilet, water tap and first-aid kit.

The ‘Fiederels Polder Tasting Tour’ takes you northwards via the village of Rutten to the Frisian village of Lemmer, where you’ll explore a very small part of it before heading back to the Noordoostpolder. Between Rutten and Lemmer, you’ll pass two farms with farm shops on their premises (Keurentjes Dairy Farm and Dijkveld Stol Dairy Farm) as well as a shop selling a variety of local produce, both agricultural and otherwise (Van de Buren).
After your mini-trip to Friesland, you cycle on through the Kuinderbos, where you follow a lovely route around the peat lake De Kuilen and further on cycle a stretch along the Kuindervaart. After woods and water, you look out over various agricultural fields from the Wellerzandweg. On this road, do take a moment to look at the see-through panel you pass. If you dismount here and look through the panel from the right angle, the drawing on the glass panel is projected precisely onto the landscape behind it.
There aren’t many places to eat or drink along this route, but if you veer off the route just a little way after cycle junction 60, you can enjoy a lovely lunch or a bite to eat and a drink at Restaurant FENN’s. You’ll find FENN’s listed as a stop on this route; click on that stop for information about this location. At the end of the route, in the cycle café at MTB-Camping Fiederels, you can also enjoy coffee, tea, soft drinks or a portion of chips.
Be sure to pop into the aforementioned market stalls and local produce shop and pick up a tasty treat to enjoy in your accommodation in the evening, so you can savour the memories of your day Noordoostpolder with the finest local produce. We call this ‘Polder tasting’.
