In the 15th century, Schokland was still an island in the Zuiderzee. Due to the threat of floods, residents had to leave the island regularly, after which it was permanently evacuated in 1859. Since the reclamation of the Noordoostpolder in 1942, Schokland has been part of the mainland of the province of Flevoland.
The route through this special part of the Netherlands, which starts and ends at Restaurant and Museum Schokland, is just under 120 kilometres long. The round trip leads mostly through the Noordoostpolder, but from the town of Kuinre, it also takes in a beautiful part of the province of Overijssel, including National Park Weerribben-Wieden and the watery surroundings of Giethoorn.

At a good 50 kilometres, the route stops at Pantropica in Luttelgeest; for lovers of exotic flora and fauna, this tropical park is highly recommended. After 65 kilometres, you arrive at MotoPlusPunt Het Hof van Holland in Oldemarkt, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch.
