For several years now, visitors to the Noordoostpolder Tulip Festival have been able to admire a tulip mosaic in every village. This year is no exception. Each village in the Noordoostpolder is working with volunteers to create a beautiful work of art made of tulips, which can be admired from 17 April to 3 May.
The mosaic is situated in a prominent spot in each village, so it can be admired along the way. This year’s theme is ‘New Beginning!’; this theme is reflected in the various mosaics.
As early as the turn of the year, or sometimes even earlier, the creative residents put their heads together to come up with a beautiful design that fits the theme and is truly original.
Work can only really get underway shortly before the Tulip Festival. After all, that is when the tulips are in bloom and the villages know which colour tulip is suitable. Nature must also lend a hand; sometimes spring gets off to a late start, which in turn partly determines when the tulips will bloom. With these freshly cut tulips, the mosaic can then be arranged, bringing the design truly to life.
It is then rightly placed in a beautiful spot in the village, so that the many visitors can admire the artwork as they pass by.
