Every spring, you will be amazed when you drive through the Noordoostpolder, because millions of tulips are in bloom. To allow you to enjoy all this colourful splendour to the fullest, the Noordoostpolder Tulip Festival maps out a beautiful tulip route every year.
They know which fields have tulips growing in them, which of course varies from year to year, and place Tulip Festival signs that you can follow to drive the entire tulip route. This year's tulip route takes you past all the villages in the Noordoostpolder and is no less than 102 kilometres long.
Along the way, you can park anywhere on the verge to admire and photograph the tulip fields from a distance. But you can (and are allowed to!) also view them up close at a number of places along the route: the Tulip Experience Field in Creil, the Tulip Variety Garden in Espel and the Tulip Picking Garden in Marknesse.
In addition to the physical signage, the route is also clearly marked on a map, which you can print out or open and download via Google Maps. In addition, there is also a Tulip Festival app, which provides background information about both tulip cultivation and the area you are driving through. Would you like to stop for a snack along the way? There are catering facilities at the various tulip festival locations, as indicated on the map.
