The Kuinderbos is located on the north-eastern edge of the flat land of the Noordoostpolderder. With water, a mountain, a castle and a stream. The Kuinderbos is the largest contiguous forest in the Noordoostpolder. Perfect for a walk, bike ride or summer picnic.
The Kuinderbos is located in the northeast of the municipality. This is where you go for a perfect day out, or a breath of fresh air. Its hiking trails, cycle paths, nature and day camping, playing fields, picnic areas, campfire sites and historic ruins will make your day complete. Was this not enough? There is also a castle route, a"wet-noses route", or dog-walking area, a sand sculpture route, an MTB route as well as a horse and carriage route. For real nature lovers: the forest extends across the border with the province of Overijssel. So you are almost in the National Park Weerribben-Wieden.
Discover nature and see it like you haven't before. It is teeming with special plants, mushrooms, butterflies, birds of prey and predators such as the pine marten. Around Kuinderplas, Welsh ponies and Icelandic horses make sure the forest clearings stay open. And take a good look at the ground: because the forest was planted on the bottom of the salty Zuiderzee, shell remains can still be found between the trees. When are you going to discover this forest?
At the edge of the lake is an activity field with Swedish allure of about 1.5 hectares in size. There is a nice new toilet building and is a haystack that serves as an umbrella when it rains and can be used as a parasol in sunny weather. There are also 10 camper pitches overlooking the water. You can book these digitally, but only for weekend stays or recognised holidays.
For toddlers, there is a Kabouterpad in the Kuinderbos. At the starting point there is a knapsack and a real pointy hat ready for them, as well as the large Staatsbosbeheer Gnome book. It contains the assignments for the trail, which will help your little gnome become a real gnome expert! If all the tasks are done well, a gnome diploma will be waiting for you afterwards. And all that work will make you hungry: at the end you can bake bread on the campfire. For a small fee, coffee or tea will be waiting for you at the Foresters' Rest Point.
If you are not yet enthusiastic about the Kuinderbos by now, the forester will make sure you will be. Read here his enthusiastic story about the area he is allowed to manage and where you can recreate.
