The surface, the shape and the fold

‘The Plane, the Form and the Fold’ is the title of the new temporary exhibition, which opens on 18 October at Museum Nagele. Cor van Dijk, Anne-Will Lufting and Ditty Ketting will be exhibiting their work there. The guiding principle behind the selection of artists for the temporary exhibitions is to align with the architecture and ideology of Het Nieuwe Bouwen. Nagele is a prime example of this in architectural terms. This attracts architecture enthusiasts from across the country. The artists exhibiting from 18 October also work within this tradition.

Cor van Dijk creates solid steel sculptures and pencil drawings. His geometric sculptures are crafted with flawless precision, with the surface texture providing a striking contrast to the precisely chosen dimensions, carried through in every detail across all parts, both internally and externally.

Anne-Will Lufting creates works using canvas. She drapes folds of this stiff material – which is not easily controlled – onto a frame. In this way, she creates tension within her piece. Once the form is finalised, it is spray-painted in a combination of two bright colours.

Ditty Ketting is inspired by the colour theory of Josef Albers, who was both a student and a lecturer at the Bauhaus. Geometry is also Ditty’s starting point; she carefully constructs her work using planes and lines. Her palette consists of a colour wheel of her own choosing, comprising 14 saturated colours, with the same colours in 3 x 14 shades mixed with white and 3 x 14 shades mixed with black. This gives rise to the most extraordinary colour combinations, within which a balance is sought.
