Shopkeepers in Emmeloord town centre have joined forces under the name ‘Gastvrij Emmeloord’. To ensure you feel truly welcome, Gastvrij Emmeloord regularly organises fun activities in Emmeloord town centre. For example, there are special markets to mark occasions such as Mother’s Day, ‘red carpet days’ when fashion shops showcase a selection of their collections via models on a long red carpet, and outlet days, when shopkeepers set up stalls at the entrance to their shops offering major clear-outs and substantial discounts. Around St Nicholas’ Day and Christmas, Gastvrij Emmeloord decorates the shopping area with festive and wintry decorations.
Emmeloord’s main shopping street is the Lange Nering. Here you’ll find clothing shops from national chains, such as C&A, Livera, Norah and Jack & Jones, as well as the well-known chemists Trekpleister, Kruidvat, Etos and DA. But you’ll also find great clothes on the Lange Nering and the Korte Achterzijde at boutique shops such as Eighty, Lef de Kinderwinkel and Jeroen Beekman Mode. Are you looking for a good jeweller, a lovely perfume, a tasty piece of cheese, a good book or trendy shoes? Emmeloord is the place to shop for these too. The shops in the town centre are open daily from 09:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 17:00. On Friday evenings, shops stay open until 21:00. The last Sunday of the month is a Sunday shopping day, although not all shopkeepers take part.

Come rain or shine, every Thursday you can visit the market in the centre of Emmeloord. Fruit, vegetables, cheese and nuts, as well as clothing and leather goods, to name but a few. The market takes place from 08:00 to 14:30 on Kettingplein.

If you’ve been shopping for a while, you’ll probably fancy a refreshing drink, a tasty lunch or a quick snack. The centre of Emmeloord is the perfect place for that too. There are various ice-cream parlours, snack bars, restaurants and other catering establishments. A number of these are concentrated on Horecaplein De Deel, at one end of the Lange Nering, whilst another cluster of catering establishments can be found on and around Kettingplein, halfway along the Lange Nering. But do make sure to pop in for a bite to eat or a drink on Kettingstraat, Noordzijde or Achterom.

Beneath the iconic Poldertoren and next to the bus station, you’ll find De Deel car park, where you can park for free for as long as you like. This is a handy starting point for your day’s shopping, as you’re right at the start of the Lange Nering shopping street. You can also park for free all day at the Paardenmarkt, next to the Noordzijde and the Bumalaan. From here, it’s just a short walk to Kettingplein, which takes you right into the ‘heart’ of the Lange Nering. You can also park for free in other places in the city centre, but for a maximum of two hours and with a parking disc: ‘Jumboplein’, ‘Smedingplein’, ‘Pastoor Koopmansplein’ and behind the Korte Achterzijde (Overtuinen). You can also park your car for free close to the shops (max. 2 hours) next to and behind De Lange Nering, along the Noordzijde, in Kettingstraat and in Korte Achterzijde.

Are you in the centre of Emmeloord and need to pop out for a quick shop? Don’t worry: there are several large supermarkets in the centre. The Aldi and the Jumbo are opposite each other, halfway along the Lange Nering, with a car park in between. Free of charge, of course. The Albert Heijn is at the end of Lange Nering, with its own free car park right outside and two off-licences within walking distance. Fancy something a bit different? Then pop into the Polski Sklep Faworyt Delicatessen, halfway along Lange Nering.
