During a walk through the Noordoostpolder , you’ll pass unique locations: you can walk on or around the former island of Schokland, view scale models of various world ports in the Waterloopbos, or admire sand sculptures all year round whilst walking around the Schoterplas. There’s plenty to see here if you love nature. Architecture enthusiasts shouldn’t miss a stroll through the village of Nagele. Along the way, you’ll see buildings designed by Gerrit Rietveld and Aldo van Eyck, as well as the landscaping by garden architect Mien Ruys.
In the Noordoostpolder , we have three TOPs. A TOP stands for Toeristisch OverstapPunt (Tourist Transfer Point). A TOP is the perfect starting point for your cycling or walking tour. There is always enough parking space at a TOP, making it easy to continue on foot or by bike. There is also often a catering establishment nearby. Various signposted hiking and cycling routes start at every TOP. But if you choose one of the walking routes below, we will help you quickly and easily on your way with a map and a gpx file for your navigation device.

Are you interested in a guided walk, so that you can discover all about the history and architecture of the town or village you’re walking through in a very accessible way? There are various options for this in the Noordoostpolder . Through Museum Nagele, you can book a village guide for a group of up to 15 people to experience the special and unique architecture of this village. In Emmeloord, two organisations offer guided city tours: polder expert Evert de Graaff and a guide from the Noordoostpolder Cultural and Historical Centre. The city walk takes you past, amongst other things, the city’s oldest streets, and you’ll learn all about the history of the Noordoostpolder, the Poldertoren and the architecture of various buildings.
