Actually, the Kadoelerkeersluis near Kraggenburg is not a lock as it is usually referred to. In fact, this lock protects the land bordering the Kadoelermeer and Zwartemeer lakes from flooding in case of high water levels in those lakes. The Kadoelerkeersluis has large gates that are placed in the water at high tide. However, at normal water levels, you can simply sail your boat through the Kadoelerkeersluis.
