The Marknessersluis, as its name suggests, is located in Marknesse. This lock is seven metres wide and fifty metres long and has a lock length of almost forty metres. The lock can accommodate ships of 200 to 300 tonnes.
The Marknesser lock dates from 1948. In 1992, a gateway was added to maintain the water level at the top of the lock. A drainage sluice is a 'slide' in which water is 'drained' from a higher part to a lower part.
