Schoterveld

The Schoterveld is an 80-hectare nature and recreation area just north of Bant, right next to the Kuinderbos. The area was previously used for agriculture, but is now owned by the Dutch Forestry Commission. The redevelopment of the area began in 2007 with the excavation of sand, which was used for road construction in the region, among other things. To shield the area from the noise, light and view of the nearby A6 motorway, a landscape embankment has been constructed around the Schoterveld.

Recreation

The sand excavations created, among other things, the Schoterplas. Although this is not suitable for swimming, it is a beautiful addition to the landscape and offers a magnificent view from the De Stronk motorhome site, which has a beach with a sunbathing area on the lake, and restaurant FENN's.

In addition to being a campervan site, De Stronk is also an activity area, suitable for fairs, sporting events and (company) parties, among other things. Other recreational facilities in the Schoterveld include a course for equestrian events (including the annual Eventing Flevoland), a 4x4 agility track, space for a future cycle path and a large car park, which will have a TOP function: you can park your car there for free and then explore Schoterveld and Kuinderbos by bike or on foot, using the route suggestions listed on the TOP (large column) if necessary.

Don't have your own bike (with you)? Then simply grab a shared bike from the bike hub, which you can easily reserve and pay for via the Deelfiets Nederland app. Last but not least, the well-known and popular sand sculpture route, which has been around for years, will be moved from the nearby Kuinderbos to the Schoterveld in September 2025. This route can be admired throughout the year and will then be renewed and given a new theme.

You can spend the night in Schoterveld at the aforementioned camper van site (also suitable for caravans). For families, the De Veenkuil nature campsite, a little further on in the Kuinderbos, is highly recommended. Those who prefer to stay at a holiday park can opt for the adjacent Eigen Wijze.

Nature

A great deal of attention has also been paid to local nature. For example, a sand martin wall with over 100 nesting sites has been constructed, there is a winter shelter for grass snakes, and there are three wildlife passages for grass snakes, small mammals, and amphibians. A special breeding pool has also been created for the natterjack toad, and more than 10 hectares of the Schoterveld are suitable for heathland development.

In short

For a relaxing day of walking, cycling or lying on the beach at Schoterplas, the Schoterveld is an asset to tourism and recreation in the Noordoostpolder. And for nature lovers, there is much to discover and appreciate, both in terms of fauna and flora. In short: come and enjoy a day or half-day in the Schoterveld.
