Urk harbour is close to the old centre of the fishing town, with its small streets, alleys and fishermen's houses.
In recent years, the necessary facilities have been added to make a stay in and around the ports even more pleasant. Examples include expansion of the catering establishments, new accommodation for Tourist Information with Tourist Transfer Point and new sanitary facilities. Upstairs, the port area has a large, free parking area for cars and about 20 camper vans.
During the summer months, the port area buzzes with activities. For instance, there is a busy and publicly accessible fish auction, where you can see the just-unloaded fish for yourself and witness it being auctioned on the spot. The port is a great starting point to further explore the characteristic fishing village.
