Original vapour samples

Characteristic of every farmyard entrance in the Noordoostpolder are the concrete posts with a letter-number combination, e.g. T 114. That was the unique number of the plot. Even long after reclamation, these numbers were used instead of farmers' names or house numbers.

On a limited number of farmyards, we still find the complete set of 2 low (schamp) poles and 3 high vapour poles. Between the 2 bollards on either side of the driveway belongs a wooden beam hanging on a chain. When the yard is "open", the beam can rest on a small concrete post. So this post also belongs to a complete set of vapour barriers! Between the two high bollards, which are close together, there is a chain that closes off the path to the house.

Farms with original vapour poles are not open to tourists, but you can view the vapour poles from the road, e.g. on the "Over de zeebodem" cycle tour.
