You walk the Pionierspad across Flevoland over the former bottom of the Zuiderzee, which has only been dry for half a century. A trip through forests and swamps, interspersed with vistas over endless lowlands. The route follows many unpaved paths along fields, ditches and grass dykes.
Stage 5 goes from Nagele to Swifterbant. The route goes via the Ketelbrug bridge over the Ketelmeer, where it is quite spooky when it is windy. On calm days, it is an eldorado for birdwatchers. This is followed by the river dune area near Swifterbant, a varied landscape with grassland, bushes, agriculture and farms.
