This year, the theme of the day is Gonnie and Gijsje, the cheerful goose friends who have the most wonderful adventures together. Come along and discover how much fun it is to enjoy books and language with your little one.
The programme
BoekStart Day is a day of celebration. Between 10.00 and 12.00 we organise an attractive programme full of fun activities. Children and (grand)parents can join in with picture songs, sing together and make music. There will be reading with the storytelling box and creative activities such as colouring and crafts. For toddlers, there is a play mat for reading and playing together. There is also a special photo area in the world of Gonnie and Gijsje and a book market to discover our extensive collection.
Gonnie and Gijsje
Gonnie is a little yellow goose who lives near the haystack and loves her bright red favourite boots. When these disappear one day, she goes looking and discovers the world outside the haystack. During her adventure, she meets Gijsje and together they go exploring. What animals do they meet? What sounds do they hear? And will they find the boots again? This cheerful story is the main theme of the activities on Book Start Day.
BoekStartdag
The BoekStart day is organised for the sixth time nationwide by BoekStart in cooperation with libraries. The day is the opportunity to introduce young children to books in a playful way. Research shows that children who are read to from an early age develop better language skills later on. Therefore: you can't start early enough. To support parents, library membership is free for children and young people up to 22 years old.

New members up to 2 years receive the cheerful BoekStart kit. The very youngest visitors and their (grand)parents receive an extra warm welcome.
