Where once the waters of the Zuiderzee pounded against the coast, now lies the largest forestry area in the Noordoostpolder. The Kuinderbos comprises more than 1,100 hectares of coniferous and deciduous trees. And the good news for mountain bikers: the forest contains a 24-kilometre MTB route.
The Kuinder forest takes its name from Kuinre, which lies behind the old sea dyke in Overijssel. The route is 95 per cent unpaved and you cycle through both deciduous and coniferous forest. A literal highlight of the round is the Kuinderberg, a former rubbish tip that is now a challenging hump for bikers.

Here you can take in some nice climbs and a descent, which can be quite challenging due to the potentially slippery surface. The descent is marked with a yellow sign, so be careful! Due to the clay-like surface, the route can be difficult during wet periods. The mountain bike route is also partly used as a bridleway.
